About Dr. Rachel H Meyer
Rachel H. Meyer obtained her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Special Education from Temple University in 2012. She earned her Master’s Degree in 2005 from John Carroll University in Community Counseling, located in University Heights, Ohio and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Denver (2002). She has been in the field of education for over 25 years across a range of settings and locations. Additionally, Rachel is a registered Psychotherapist in Colorado and is excited to be working with you and your family.
Rachel has always had a special connection to individuals who learn differently. Having been diagnosed with a speech impediment at a young age, getting tested and labeled throughout her K12 career, and being told she wouldn’t amount to anything, Rachel made it my mission to not only prove others wrong but to prove to herself that she could do it. And she did it! After obtaining her doctoral degree, Rachel felt it was important to help others recognize and achieve their own educational paths.
Rachel has worked in a variety of educational settings, from teaching college-level classes (at private, public, and community institutions) to being the director at a disability office at a local college in Ohio, a school psychologist in a charter network, a public K-12 school setting, an online public K12 school, and the coordinator of disability services at a BOCES in Colorado. With these experiences and knowledge, Rachel felt it was time to venture out and focus more on the individual and his or her family, helping others not only reach for their goals, but also be a constant support and advocate within the world of special education.
Rachel hopes to provide you and your family with support and guidance in the world of special education. This can be a very overwhelming process, and oftentimes, families do not know where to start. She will offer a consultation on the steps and processes to be taken for your student. Should you want your child assessed for special education in a timely, individualized manner, we will work together to make the testing experience as painless and smooth as possible. Rachel will be your strongest advocate, ensuring that the laws are followed and that your students receive the support and education they deserve. And, finally, she will help you understand the rights of parents and students, ensuring that schools provide appropriate education and services. Rachel’s job is to ensure you and your child feel comfortable, heard, encouraged, and valued.
